So this is a nice site
New Ted site.
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is the legendary conference where smart people from across lots of disciplines make ultra-short – around 20 minute – presentations to each other. It’s been going for a number of years, and they’ve just (thanks CoS) redone the site. Many of the talks are now online.
See percussionist Evelyn Glennie talk on How To Listen from 2003.
I think the site looks great. Super-simple, but deceptively so. Lots of information to present (a starting archive of 100 videos for a start) which it does so well. Nice use of dynamic stuff (the flash movies for a start). It’s a bit slow right now (and seems to have validation / accessibility issues) but this may be because it’s just launched. But above all, it just looks lovely. Full-width, lots of nice features – including downloading all the talks.
One to explore.

An interesting redesign. The categorisation in particular is nicely done (’the creative spark’, ‘what makes us happy’ etc) surfacing some of the older talks through thematic groups. Reminds me of the QI bookshop in Oxford which arranges the shelves “according to a broad theme that encourages browsing and serendipity”. Worth a visit if you’re ever in Oxford.
