Apt’s links for August 14th through August 15th
- Jakob Nielsen interviewed by Jack Schofield - “users visiting a new site spend an average of 30 seconds on the homepage and less than two minutes on the entire site before deciding to abandon it. They spend a bit more time if they decide to stay on a site, but still only four minutes on average.” If
- The Road to Clarity - New York Times - Americans are changing the typeface used on their road signs. I quite liked Interstate… which has now been phased out.
- ‘Look, I existed then too’ | Technology | Guardian Unlimited - Lemn Sissay is a nice guy. I had no idea he liked blogs too.
- GOOD Magazine | Goodmagazine - Mixtapes: Linguistic Appropriation - Another magazine site [via Subtraction.com]. Very small fonts. Interesting content. I’m maybe being boring now and will stop.
- New York Magazine - A lot of magazine sites - particularly US ones - are looking awfully similar to me. The content is of course different, and this one is good, but they look so….. samey. Via subtraction.org
- Don’t fall for the Potemkin scam | Technology | Guardian Unlimited - Corey goes for DRM again. Is this a weekly rant do we think? Either way, he over-eggs it, but that’s the fun.
- Subtraction: Passing on Periodicals - Khoi Vinh again - with links to some new magazine sites. I’m with him on Monocle tho.
- Subtraction: Graphic Design at 70 M.P.H. - The regularly brilliant Khoi Vinh - a man familiarly conflicted by digital and print - on the shortcomings of translating a newspaper online. Whilst extolling its virtues.
