Portobello Books

Hot on the heels of Phase 2 of Granta Magazine, we should also be talking about the launch of the website of Granta’s sister publisher, Portobello Books.

Portobello Books is an independent publisher of “books with a purpose”:

It believes that enlightenment ought to be entertainment. There will be nothing dull, slow or clotted about the prose we champion. Our writers will have the powers of expression to match their powers of imagination and intelligence. Our aim is to offer our readers an enticing mixture of fiction and non-fiction that is full of life — unignorable, searching and fresh.

We designed and built a highly flexible site for Portobello, based on all the best principles we know: a complete and searchable catalogue with information for readers, writers and booksellers alike; lots of space to find out more about their authors; a full ecommerce system for direct sales with lots of bookdata behind the scenes; and blogs for editors and authors alike.

Portobello Books is one of the first sites to be built on our own TLC publishing platform -  a complete content management, bibliographic and ecommerce system in one – and we’re really pleased to see it out there and working well. We’ve already seen plenty of activity on the site, and Portobello is ranking highly in Google searches for all kinds of things.

Whatever you’re interested in—whether it’s Africa, America, sewer systems, or cut flowers—head over to Portobello Books and have a look around.
