I have mixed feelings about the dropping IE6. list is the busiest site that i have access to google analytics for and they are still showing 6.5% visitors a month with IE6 (out of enough visitors to make it probably quite statistically accurate). I think that graceful degradation is more sensible than just hoping it will go away.

“Dropping” IE6 doesn’t mean ignoring it, or at least it shouldn’t. For the moment I’m going for reasonable degradation, but some things are so egregious – no transparency on PNGs, different setups required for AJAX – that I’m adding a browser-sniffing alert to IE6 users suggesting they upgrade…
